The majority of the materials used to construct the buildings on the Hutmacher site were gathered from the surrounding area.
Stones for the walls came from a hill just to the north and east of the site.
Clay used in the mortar was found near the stones.
Ridgepoles, beams, rafters and brush to support the roof were gathered from trees and brush growing along the nearby creek bed.
Wheat straw for roof thatch was saved after a crop was harvested and threshed.
Doors, door lintels and window frame were made out of scrap lumber.
Just about the only thing that needed to be purchased were the windows. Records show the windows were purchased at the store in nearby Fayette.
